Members of Honeydew police, Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) and Night Guard Security engaged in more visible policing duties at Northgate Shopping Centre on 30 November.
“We have noted that at various shopping centres’ entertainment entrances and their car parks, there has been an increase in crime during the daytime. This is made more prevalent with more visitors at shopping centres as they gear up for the festive season, and more youngsters and elderly are visiting during the day,” said Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan.

Muthan added that the police have seen an increase in theft from motor vehicles, theft of motor vehicles, and incidents of shoplifting and pickpocketing, which is common at shopping centres around this time of the year.

“Together with our CPF and security companies, members of our station’s support group will be showing an active presence in nearby shopping centres during the festive season. This is all to increase visible policing and deter crime.”
The station’s support group include officers who are not on active duty and work in administration and management at the station.
JP Barrie-Smith of Night Guard security added, “Crime displacement is our biggest plan, and we hope to achieve this in every way possible. “We want to make sure that there is zero crime in all of the shopping centres we serve, and we aim to achieve this by increasing our visibility.”

The police distributed festive season crime safety tips to the public and encouraged passing shoppers to ask pressing questions about crime.
