A word from Principal of Hoërskool Randburg Pieter Booysen
FONTAINEBLEAU – Principal of Hoërskool Randburg shares his words on 2020.
Principal of Hoërskool Randburg Pieter Booysen writes:
A highlight was the complete and successful implementation of Google Classroom and presenting learners with an online learning opportunity that covered the complete syllabi for this year.
The enthusiasm with which educators embraced this new learning model set an example to all.
The other highlight was the construction of a pedestrian bridge over Malibongwe Drive to ensure the safety of our learners when crossing this busy road on their way to school. This has been a project many years in the making and the final product will surely become a landmark in the Randburg area.
Not having learners at school and losing all extramural activities and opportunities at school surely impacted negatively on Grade 12 learners in their final year of school. Even Grade 8 learners did not come to appreciate the dynamics of a normal school year and we hope that next year will present them with this opportunity.
The worst part of this year would be the loss of life to Covid-19 in our country. Our heartfelt condolences to all families that lost loved ones to this pandemic.
This would not be the time to single out one person as a hero. Every single person that overcame their Covid challenges should be hailed a hero. Many lived through financial difficulties, many lost their jobs, many went to be bed being hungry and alone. Many lent a helping hand and reached out to those in need. Every person that survived this pandemic should be called a hero.
Our first hope would be for a ‘normal’ school year in 2021. To once again experience the unreserved laughter of children, to see them partake in school activities, to see them socialise spontaneously and carefree will be a blessing.
It goes without saying that our biggest hope would be for the Covid challenge to dissipate rapidly”
May next year be a blessed year for South Africa. May we rise above all differences and challenges and build a country with strong leadership that truly serves all people of our nation.
