Elnita Road water leak continues

BOSKRUIN – According to concerned resident Ammie Deepnarain, no work has been done to a water pipe replacement on Elnita Road for over a year and a half.

A water leak on Elnita Road and the unfinished repairs surrounding it continues to be an issue for local residents.
The Randburg Sun initially reported on the issue in September 2020, and according to concerned resident Ammie Deepnarain, no work has been done to it since.

“I cannot even remember how many times I have contacted Joburg Water, my ward councillor, and the Johannesburg Roads Agency regarding this issue, and I have numerous reference numbers,” said Deepnarain.
After initial repairs to the underground pipe in June 2019, the hole left across Elnita Road was filled with sand.

“In June last year, the City came to conduct repairs on a water pipe running across Elnita Road. They dug up the road, covering repairs to the pipe with sand. This pipe began to leak again and now the sand used to fill the road is eroding.”
Water has been trickling down Elnita Road, collecting at the end of the dead-end for almost a year and a half now.

“The road has become so bad that it has even damaged my car, and I’m sure other residents have also been affected just as badly. It is clear that the pipe still has an issue and the road has not been fixed. I hope something can be done to sort this issue out.”
Very recently, Deepnarain claimed that he had seen a Joburg Water truck near the site, and after enquiring about the situation with the drivers of the vehicle, he was completely ignored.

In the Randburg Sun’s initial article, Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele said that he is well aware of the problem and endeavours to sort it out with Johannesburg Water.

“I can confirm that both I and Johannesburg Water are fully aware of this leak after several engagements and escalation,” he said.
The Randburg Sun has contacted Cele, Joburg Water and the JRA and awaits an update on the situation.
