Truck driver killed in N1 crash in Randpark Ridge
A truck driver was killed and three people injured when a Volvo truck and Honda Ballade collided on the N1 North in Randpark Ridge on Thursday afternoon.
A truck driver was killed and three people injured in a fatal collision on the N1 North between Beyers Naudé Drive and Malibongwe Drive in Randpark Ridge on August 13.
The crash occurred at about 16:50, prompting a response from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), emergency medical services and towing personnel.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, both vehicles were travelling northbound on the N1 when the Volvo truck, in the slow lane, reportedly experienced a right-front tyre blowout.
“The driver allegedly lost control of the truck, which veered across the lanes and collided with a grey Honda Ballade travelling in the second lane from the right.”
The impact forced the Honda off the roadway. The sedan then collided with the concrete barrier before landing on the opposite side of the highway.
The Volvo truck also crashed into the concrete barrier, with the impact ejecting its driver from the cabin.
“The adult male truck driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to the Roodepoort Mortuary,” said Fihla.

“The driver of the Honda Ballade and two male passengers were injured in the collision. Emergency medical services provider ER24 transported two of the injured occupants to Helen Joseph Hospital, while the third was taken to Discovery Clinic for further medical treatment.”
Fihla said a case of culpable homicide is expected to be registered at Honeydew Police Station as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling on high-speed roads.
“Maintain safe following distances and conduct regular tyre maintenance checks to help prevent mechanical failures on high-speed roadways.”
