Vuvu Vena on the power of reading
North Riding – Local content creator speaks on her journey as a bookish ambassador.
Vuvu Vena is a literature reviewer born in Mthatha and based in North Riding. The single mother of two began her journey on BookTube after she discovered the corner of YouTube with little representation of people who looked like her.
Six months later Vena began her journey of content creation in 2017 where she engages with literature and the books she has read on multiple online platforms.
“My passion is reading and I try and promote the joy of books through various platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, GoodReads, Pinterest and my blog www.vuvuvenareads.com, ” began Vena.

Vena is motivated by the transformative power of reading and how it impacts one’s worldview. Her love of reading was passed down to her by her late mother and late paternal grandmother. As a mom herself Vena has strived to archive her reading adventures for her children one day, as a digital heirloom. She hopes to engage them in future regarding their impressions of books she has read.
“Reading is therapy and education. It is a sacred place of discovery, where one is given the tools to discover themselves and the world which they inhabit.”
With her platforms, Vena has prioritised the celebration of reading and literature without the pressure to compare which has emerged on social media.

“I’d like to encourage people to honour their pace and their interests. If one finds they only have time to read one book all year, that’s one book that may impact them for a lifetime.
“A person who reads holds great potential to navigate life’s intricacies with more understanding, compassion and grace because in essence, they have witnessed numerous lives unfolding before their very eyes.”
