Women’s Warehouse strives to build up women

NORTH RIDING – Women's Warehouse sets the stage for an equitable future at their first branch in Northlands Deco Park.

Founder of Women’s Warehouse Nadine Clevely was inspired to open her doors 15 years ago. In October of last year and Level 5 lockdown, Clevely took the leap to start what she hoped to be an anchor for women and women empowerment.

“…that’s when I was just praying, asking God and He said this is the right time and I was like, ‘God, we are in a pandemic’!” laughed Clevely.

Women’s Warehouse is a multifaceted organisation with four pillars, namely DIY, automotive, safety and intimate health. Based in Northlands Deco Park, the facility is committed to the empowerment of women through knowledge, workshops and retail.

“We need to break the chains that bind us as women,” added brand manager Gin McLellan.

Clevely has set out to challenge the stereotypes of women by equipping them with the tools to be self-sufficient and independent from her own pocket. Women’s Warehouse arms women with the adequate tools to stand beside their male counterparts, as opposed to below them.

The launch of Women’s Warehouse has coincided with the war on gender-based violence being rife in South Africa, with increased statistics and reported incidents. This violence has manifested itself both physically and systemically through abuse victims being marginalised and shamed into the performance of their pain. Epistemic violence is even more common, where the experiences of women are silenced or modified to suit the male agenda in a society underpinned by patriarchal structures whispering in the wind.

Women’s Warehouse seeks to be a safe space for all women, however, they need the support of the community to grow their reach. The organisation has invited corporate South Africa and other funders to join hands with them as they strive to expand and continue with workshops and establish branches all over South Africa.

Clevely is established in the materials handling and marketing industry and the business space through companies she runs alongside her husband such as Clevetech Holdings. Women’s Warehouse is an endeavour she has been called to. Through the organisation, she is able to lead from the heart. Find out how you can get involved by contacting Women’s Warehouse directly.
