Police promote safety with Arrive Alive campaign
HONEYDEW – Police meet for a parade before kicking off safety campaign.
It was all sirens and flashing lights when a multi-department operation was launched at Honeydew Police Station on the morning of 31 March.
Operation Easter Arrive Alive was kicked off with much enthusiasm as at least 50 officers and departmental personnel met at the station for a parade before hitting the streets.

In his address to the officers, Honeydew police operational commander, Captain André Lamprecht briefed the group about what their goal was on the day, how they should work together, and that they should keep themselves and each other safe after unlicensed firearms were discovered at a similar operation recently.
Then they drove in column toward their two destinations: To conduct foot patrols in Zandspruit and enforce a roadblock on Beyers Naudé Drive, just opposite the station in Honeydew.

Three focuses of the operation were gender-based violence, drug and liquor abuse, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
As such, participants handed out a total 717 pamphlets to educate the public about these matters. Exactly 169 vehicles and 272 people were searched during the morning roadblock on Beyers Naudé Drive.

Twenty-two fines were handed out in line with the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act, to the total of R15 125.
“The operation was a great success because of the high visibility and cooperation between different departments to achieve a common goal, namely safety of our community,” Lamprecht said afterwards.
