Headlight theft in the spotlight

RANDBURG – “The targeted vehicles are Volkswagen Polos. So please be vigilant with this new trend."

Randburg police are warning of a new trend involving the theft of headlights from certain motor vehicles.
This after the police noted such a crime taking place more frequently.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said in one incident on 19 April, the victim parked his vehicle at his residential place and everything was in order.
The next day in the afternoon, he received a call from the security guard informing him about the missing lights on his vehicle.
The next incident occurred at a local car dealership where the lights of a few vehicles were stripped.

“The targeted vehicles are Volkswagen Polos. So please with this new trend, we are appealing to our community to try and secure their headlights in any other way to make it difficult to be removed. Please be vigilant if you own one of these vehicles, and always make sure that they are parked in a secure area.

“Whenever you park either at shopping areas or at work or home, where possible, make sure that the place is secured and your car not easily accessible,” said Maja.
