Learners granted the gift of vision

Johannesburg Dream Centre partners with OneSight to give sight to learners.

Johannesburg Dream Centre partners with OneSight to gift the gift of sight to learners by providing quality and free eye care and testing.

The Johannesburg Dream Centre partnered with OneSight, an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to eradicating the global vision care crisis in our lifetime to give 350 learners between 7–14 years old from Cosmo City Primary 1 and Cosmo City Junior Primary School in Cosmo City.

The partnership came about when a member of OneSight attended the Johannesburg Dream Centre’s Valentine’s Drive last year. “The project initially was supposed to happen last year but lockdown happened and we had to postpone it to this year,” said Phumlani Cele from the Johannesburg Dream Centre.

“We had a target of 2 500 learners and we aimed to assist four schools but unfortunately two of the schools we had aimed to help were approached by another organisation for a similar project.”

Both organisations shared roles in the project which included providing pre-screening for the learners, registration and ensuring that the learners attend clinic as required, among other things.

The project had an eye clinic set up at Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre that ran for four days from 12–15 April, where learners received free eye tests, free spectacles and referrals to the nearest clinic due to eye infections.
