COSMO CITY – According to a community leader, the Scouts group is a perfect example of youth education and development.
Scouts group returns to share soup and blankets with those in need.
Troop leader Vincent Campbell and the 1st Honeydew Scout’s fulfilled their promise to return to the community of Cosmo City to help in whatever way they can.

On the cold morning of August 14, the Scouts group hosted a soup kitchen while giving blankets to those in the community without, under the leadership of Campbell. He said, “We were happy to have people coming to us, considering how cold of a weekend it was. The team has been in good spirits since the last food drive we had and seeing people walk away with a blanket, food and a smile makes it all worth it.”

A day before they hosted the soup kitchen, they had a collection drive where they called on all their partners and supporters to participate in helping the people of Cosmo City – which went extremely well. “The collection drive was awesome, we had a whole trailer full of blankets, tons of soup and premade soup and hundreds of loaves of bread. It’s been really amazing to have people support us in the way they did.”
They also received support from Thompson Security who donated about R5 000 worth of food and blankets. Cosmo City Community Policing Forum and community leader Bosman Tlali were also present on the day to assist the Scouts group and direct those in need to the Scouts group.

Those supporting Campbell recognised the Scouts as an organisation aimed at youth development and community service. Tlali said, “We need such initiatives [as Scouts South Africa] in our communities as well to help uplift and empower children between six and 16 years old. As someone who stands for education and development of the youth, I see the benefits that Scouts could have on children.”
Campbell added that the he and the relevant stakeholders are in communication to assess the possibility of securing a Scouts group for Cosmo City. He added, “Scouts help us realise and experience that the world is much bigger than our phones and the internet. It gets us outdoors with people which gives us the chance to learn about each other, the environment and how we can help each other while also having fun.”
