Raising funds and awareness

STRIJDOM PARK – Raising money for children’s car safety.

The Wheel Well Foundation doubles the impact with a fundraising initiative.

The foundation recently hosted a charity fundraising event titled ‘Double Impact’ and continues to ask for support. With the Covid-19 lockdown forcing Wheel Well to cancel all their events over the last year and a half, they haven’t been able to generate the funds they used, prior to the pandemic. Founder of Wheel Well Peggie Mars said, “We are relying on this campaign to keep us going. Children can’t be responsible for their own safety so Wheel Well does a lot of work to make sure they are protected on our roads, like educating people about buckling up their children and providing car seats to families who can’t afford to buy them new.”

As part of the campaign, every rand donated will be doubled for Wheel Well thanks to their generous matches. The main aim of the campaign is to raise as many funds as possible to keep children safer on our roads.

According to Mars, child safety in cars is often neglected and has dire consequences. She said less than 10% of children are safely secured in the correct car seat and that at least four children die on South African roads every day. Mars added, “85% of children’s road deaths are preventable. A simple car seat, seatbelt or just plain visibility to drivers can save a life and a family from tragedy and yet, thousands of precious children needlessly die on our roads every year. Thousands more are traumatised, injured or disabled. It doesn’t have to be this way.”
It is such statistics and facts that push the Wheel Well foundation to raise awareness and make a difference around child car safety.

Mars thanked Discovery Insure, Supa Quick, Born Fabulous and Imperial Logistics who came on board as the matcher companies and all those that supported the initiative. “Every little bit donated is deeply appreciated as it will translate into little lives saved.”
