Honeydew police arrested four suspects during an operation in Cosmo City, and three of them confessed to being involved in the murder of a police officer.
Honeydew police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan said at about 16:30 on September 30, a warrant officer received information about four men in a green Toyota Corolla who were planning a robbery at a Pep store in Cosmo City.
“The registered informer gave information of the house where the vehicle was, and [the] warrant officer mobilised Honeydew reaction members who descended upon the house in Nigeria Street… where they spotted the vehicle with two people inside,” Muthan said.
“They pounced upon the vehicle and found the suspects with two firearms. Other members rushed into the mentioned address where the door was wide open and found two suspects, one with a firearm on his waist, and the other tried hiding a firearm in a draw. The four suspects were arrested and upon interviewing them, three suspects indicated that they were involved in a Tembisa south case [in August] of murder and armed robbery where a police officer was killed.”
Muthan said the suspects were also linked to cases at Brixton, Ivory Park and Linden police stations.
The scene was visited by Honeydew Police Station Commander Brigadier Anesh Maharaj.
