Toddies plants flowers to teach children about the good they do

OLIVEDALE – Youngsters learn about the environment and have fun in the garden on National Plant a Flower Day.

Toddies Preschool and Crèche celebrated National Plant a Flower Day – by doing just that.

Youngsters learned about the circle of life and why flowers were good for pollination as well as for natural beauty.

“This is the first time we have celebrated this day. We told the children that it is not only their vibrant colours and scents, we wanted them to understand the important role flowers play in our environment,” explained principal Hendrene Mintchev.

“They feed insects and birds, help pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Some plants are used to make medicine. We also said that some people stay in flats and don’t have gardens, and that is why it is nice when there are parks and if people plant flowers on their pavements like we do at school.”

Toddies is 23 years old and is one of the oldest nursery schools in Olivedale that has not changed ownership.
