Grade 10 learners at Cosmo City Secondary School are set to learn with new tablets they received from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).
Learners received tablets from the department on March 7. The school embraces online learning and hopes the department could provide all grades with tablets to avoid other learners taking from Grade 10s.

“We are delighted to receive them [tablets] because they assist our learners in terms of learning at home, doing their research and simplifying their work,” said Bakang Maota, the principal of the school.
“Furthermore, we are grateful for these tablets as now all Grade 10 learners can receive the work that teachers send for them to do when they are at home and the school would like the department of education to issue out these tablets to all the grades.”
The representative of the School Governing Body and teacher at the school Patricia Semenya said, “These tablets assist our learners to log in to GDE content, they can learn without a teacher and access previous question papers and memorandums and tutorial videos which will help learners who are best at learning through audio and visuals on their own.”

Grade 10 learners expressed excitement over the tablets given to them. “As a learner who is more eager to learn how to navigate around this tablet, I am also excited and motivated that I can study on my own and be able to access the GDE content without the presence of my teacher,” said one of the learners, Otshepeng Malebye.
