Honeydew police arrest man after mob justice incident

Police appeal to community members to stop sharing photos with the faces of suspects, after this is done by community members following a mob justice incident.

Police have arrested a man after he was beaten during a mob justice incident in Cosmo City.

The man had been targeted by community members for allegedly stealing and was beaten publicly. His unedited photo was published by the community on Facebook and Twitter and remains there.

“We would encourage residents to not post the photos of suspects’ faces on social media as it can contaminate cases in court,” Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said.

“You will sometimes get lawyers arguing that the rights of the accused were infringed and the case is thrown out.”

Muthan said the man had been arrested and several handbags had been recovered at the scene.

The accused will appear in court shortly on charges of theft and robbery.
