Silver Stream Village hosts its first ever potjie cook-off

Local actor Willie Esterhuizen judged the event a great success.

There was dancing, upbeat music, fun clay painting, a vibrant market, drinks and, of course, delicious food at Silver Stream Village’s first-ever potjie cook-off.

Malanshof was the place to be on May 28 as so many from the community turned up to enjoy the day.

“Everyone is in wonderful spirits and it is fantastic to see how everyone has enjoyed it,” Esterhuizen told Randburg Sun as he casually inspected the different potjie teams and their set-ups.

“We need more events like this. I’m supposed to be a judge but I just want everyone to win. Everyone pulled off such an effort.”

The village’s matron, Mandy Joubert, said this was the first time they held a potjie cook-off, but Silver Stream often hosts fun events for its residents.

“We are having this to share our atmosphere with the community,” she explained.

“Everyone can see we are a group of homely, welcoming people.”

The aim of the event was to raise funds for the village, but Joubert stressed at every opportunity she could that it was more of a ‘fun’ raiser than fundraiser.
