Windsor Clinic Open Day
Linden SAPS inform the Windsor East community about domestic violence at the Windsor Clinic Open Day.
Windsor East Clinic held its Open Day and invited Linden SAPS to address community members on several social injustice issues on June 23.
Despite the cold, wet weather on the day, a good number of community members attended and listened to what was shared by the various speakers.

Stephen Malatji of the clinic enlightened the community on gender-based violence in the LGBTQIA+ community, with June being Pride Month. Malatji explained, “You can get four categories of gender-based violence which include psychological, stalking, sexual harassment and sexual violence.”
He detailed what the different letters in LGBTQIA+ represented and shared statistical figures to illustrate how members of the LGBTQIA+ community were commonly affected by gender-based violence.

Sello Monyemangene, a nurse at the clinic, educated the male attendees on the dangers of prostate cancer and preventative measures that one should take. He advised men who were 40 years old and above to go for regular checkups at their nearest medical centre. He also advised women to encourage their partners to do this.

Linden Police Station’s sergeants Takalami Sibiya, Ursula Ditsi and Thandekile Muriel Mabaso addressed the community on domestic violence and rape and spoke of the most common cases that were reported at the station.
In closing, Linden SAPS urged the community to spread the spirit of ubuntu towards one another.
