In her quest to adopt an older dog at Randburg SPCA, Ingrid Harmse had a change of heart when she saw Cody, a dog with a massive scar down his back.
“After moving to Johannesburg, I visited the SPCA with the aim of adopting an older dog. However, as I was passing the cages, I noticed a dog with a large scar running down his back who seemed uninterested in me and it hurt my heart because it seemed like no one wanted him,” said Harmse.
“I then applied for Cody’s adoption.”

Harmse adopted Cody five years ago and their journey has been a remarkable one as they both have been there for each other.
“He has had a significant impact on my life, Cody has been there for me through good and tough times. I went through the most difficult periods in my life when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and Cody would lay on my shoulder in bed, for like three months, being with me.”
Harmse said the scar on Cody’s back was from acid being poured on him.
He loves, forgives, and trusts people despite what had happened to him, added Harmse.
She said she and Cody adored each other.
