My Town: Jukskei Park resident loves the wide open spaces of his area

Jukskei Park is close to the highways, making travel easy.

How long have you lived in your suburb?
For 17 years

What do you love most about your area?
I really feel that our area is a great area, wide open spaces, close to amenities, friendly people (for the most part) demographically diverse, yet all with an attitude of harmonic co-existence. There is peace, tranquility (for the most part) neighbourliness and a sense of helping out. There is also a definite sense of looking out for each other.

What makes your area unique?
I think the unique point is largely the geographic location close to main highways and accessibility to major shopping centres without being too close to the hustle and bustle. It’s close to a lovely wide open area of greenbelt. I also feel because of the proximity to this greenbelt, the birdlife is fantastic.

Where do you go locally to unwind or spend the afternoon?
I enjoy a nice game of competitive bowls at Randburg Bowls club in Boskruin – great way to unwind, and get a little bit of exercise. Robyn Park is also good, but a little bit of a security risk. This aspect has, however, improved recently thanks to the local security companies and the Community Policing Forum.

Laurie Stafford unwinds by playing bowls at Randburg Bowls Club.

In what ways has your area improved recently?
I feel the community policing and the way they interact with the security companies is great. Also the park is a lot cleaner. I think the community-minded people in our area are great and undertake many community-based initiatives, be it park clean-up, park bonfires for families and lots of other initiatives.

What would you like to see change in your area, and how can you contribute to this?
I feel the security and crime control can always be improved (notwithstanding an excellent job being done by the CPF. I would help out by getting involved in the existing CPF structures. I also feel that a number of community initiatives are being introduced. I would certainly like to see more involvement in these by the community at large.
