Cosmo City schoolboys arrested for cutting boy on face with panga

Boys (16) charged with assault after allegedly striking a fellow learner with a panga.

Two schoolboys have been arrested for striking another boy in the face with a panga.

The 16-year-old learners at Blue Eagle High School were charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Honeydew Police Station.

They were charged more than a week after the incident because they were only identified after another incident they were involved in, also at the school in Cosmo City.

“The boys are in the GP London gang at the school and when boys from another gang, Bad Company, visited, they assaulted them,” said Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan.

“Police were called and we arrived quickly to break up the fight. There were no injuries. But it was then the security at the gate and the school principal recognised these two who had cut another boy at the school on August 27.”

Muthan said the pair were not identified before because the school was large and all learners were not always present.

“There are a few schools around that are very bad. Children sell drugs among themselves and they go to school with knives, pangas and tomahawks.”

Blue Eagle High School was contacted by Randburg Sun and it promised to provide a comment.

This will be published when it is made.

Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona would only comment that ‘this story is old and was concluded’.

He would not respond to further questions about the matter.
