7 and 8-year-olds airlifted following pedestrian-vehicle accident in Ferndale

Two children are fighting for their lives following a horrific accident.

Emer-G-Med responded to a pedestrian-vehicle accident on the corner of Oxford Street and Main Avenue in Ferndale on November 23 at around 17:00.

According to Emer-G-Med’s national spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, two children, a seven and eight-year-old boy and a girl were struck by a VW Amarok.

“On arrival, the children were found to be in a critical condition. Emergency Care Practitioners used several advanced life support interventions to stabilize them before both were placed onto mechanical ventilators to assist them with breathing and airlifted to a specialist facility for the definitive care that they required,” said Van Reenen.

All relevant authorities were on the scene.

The facts surrounding the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and the matter is under investigation.
