Sundowner resident’s ashes to be compressed into a diamond and worn around her daughter’s neck

Community raises R50 000 in less than five days so daughter can have her mom's ashes in a diamond pendant close to her heart.

The community raised R50 000 in barely any time at all for a diamond pendant to be made to remember a very special person.

Kim MacCallum’s ashes will be compressed into the diamond that will be worn around her daughter Morgan’s neck, so she can always carry her mother close to her heart.

A Sundowner resident, MacCallum passed away as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident and the request went out to raise funds on a backabuddy campaign page, where friends, family and the greater community donated more the required amount (R51 300) in less than five days.

The campaign is still active, and surplus funds will go to charities of Morgan’s choice.

MacCallum was a parkrun event ambassador not just for the run at Golden Harvest Park, but also at parkruns in Ruimsig, Fourways and Lanseria.

She was well-known in the community for her optimistic nature and encouraging words she had for everyone she met.

She was a caring person, making her 99th blood donation the week before the accident.

“Kim touched so many lives with her contagious smile, bubbly and friendly personality, and extremely giving heart,” the family wrote on the backabuddy page.

“Kim will be loved and missed by everyone that met her and her energy and legacy will continue through each of you. Smile at strangers, give wherever you can and care for each other. We’ve lost a very special human on earth, but as with Kim’s legacy, diamonds are forever.”

At her memorial the family expected 200 people, but 400 attended to honour MacCallum.
