People are still old school and traditional in their opinions about jobs – Curro Aurora matriculant

Matriculant says school learners and their families should research which industries are still relevant.

Curro Aurora matriculant, Gray Kekana comments:

I will be studying mechanical engineering at the University of Pretoria this year.

This is something I really want to do and am looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, too many school learners are encouraged by their families and other people to go for your traditional jobs like nurses, lawyers and doctors.

They are old school in their approach and still believe in these fields without doing any research.

Many industries in South Africa have become saturated and there are few jobs in them, while others are opening up and even booming.

These new industries that are in demand are what parents should be discussing with their children.

Studying overseas and working abroad holds more promise than many avenues people take without doing research.

Young people must also take it upon themselves to become more aware of other careers that may interest them, instead of just listening to their parents.
