Hoërskool Randburg matriculant and star athlete encourages time management

After setting the South African U18 record and coming 10th in the World Youth Games in shot-put, Zonica Lindeque still earns six distinctions.

Hoërskool Randburg matriculant Zonica Lindique writes:

I earned six distinctions in matric but like many others, I had a lot on my plate outside of school.

That is why I say time management and finding balance between things is the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks me what challenges people face in school.

I am an elite athlete and I always have competitions and training.

Even while in matric last year, I went to Columbia to represent South Africa in the World Youth Games.

I reached the final round and finished 10th in the U20 shot-put section.

It was not as good as I wanted but not many people can say they are the 10th best in the world.

The year before that I broke the South African U18 shot-put record with my 18.18m throw in the South African Athletics Club Championships.
But attending these events meant I always had work to catch up on when I was back at school.

And for finals, I had to sit down and focus on those, putting everything else aside.

So I would encourage learners with a lot going on to manage their time well, not procrastinate, do the things which have deadlines first, and then do the rest.
