The King’s School Robin Hills spread the love by raising funds for cancer through a spray-a-thon to benefit The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

Community outreach mentor at The King’s School Robin Hills Tandi Theron said that the school has been holding the event for over 15 years.

“We’ve had teachers and parents who have suffered from cancer and this is to honour them. The children love spraying their hair. The response is always overwhelming. It’s special to be able to reach out and that’s what our school’s motto is, to make a difference and that is what we want to do,” said Theron.

Breast cancer survivor and teacher Natasha Vermaak said that the cancer spray-a-thon highlights the struggle that people with cancer have.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. This is for people like me who are going through it. This is to raise awareness for the individuals and families that go through it every day.”

She added that it helps raise money and to let people know that they are not alone. “When we shave or have different colours on our hair it lets families who are going it know that there are others walking with them. Even if it’s in a silent way but they realise they are not alone during their journey.”

“It was more than we expected, we had more than the expected number of children that got involved and teachers as well.”
