Spark Cresta celebrated Freedom Day differently as they created a voting station in the school and allowed learners to come and vote for what they wanted the school to do at the end of the term. The aim was to give learners an idea of what it was like to vote and feel what it was like for South Africans that voted for the first time on 27 April 1994.
Randburg Sun asked learners what Freedom Day is and why is it celebrated.

Freedom Day is the day where all races were able to vote equally. I think it’s important to celebrate so that we remember when we had democratic elections for the first time
Freedom Day started in 1994 on 27 April when apartheid came to an end and black people were allowed to vote for the first time and had human rights like any other races.
