Vox pop: Kya Sand residents express their views about the employment of illegal foreigners

The organisers of the protest said that they will continue to protest if their demands are not met.

The Combat Movement Msawawa branch in Kya Sand led a protest in Kya Sand Industrial Park on May 24, with the residents demonstrating against the employment of undocumented foreign nationals.

The peaceful protest saw the movement’s leaders and residents handing over the memorandums of demands to the companies in the area.

Randburg Sun newspaper asked the residents of Kya Sand the following question regarding the protest: Why should illegal foreigners not be hired?

Here is what they said….

Mkhuseli Guquka: They should not be employed since it is not beneficial for them to be hired in our country because they are not taxed and contribute nothing to our economy. Citizens of this country with relevant documentation who are now unemployed can help to boost the economy.
Nolwazi Mazibuko: We’re tired of doing nothing while illegal immigrants are working. I have been unemployed since 2020 and I want to work and be able to do my own things. I am very confident that the protest will bring changes to our community.
Itumeleng Mashabane: They contribute nothing to our economy and must be replaced! All of the people who are not working and came here to protest must replace the illegal foreigners working in the companies. We also want to work and provide for our families.
Lorraine Nkosi: They should not be hired since they don’t have the necessary documentation. There are many unemployed people in Kya Sands, and most of them are youth. So, before they employ anyone else, the owners of businesses here must consider us South Africans first.
