Rand Park High School athletes turned in an outstanding performance at the Prestige Athletics Meeting on September 2, returning home with 35 gold, 16 silver and seven bronze medals across the sprints, middle-distance events and relays.

Leading the charge for the girls was Gracia Ojiadazie, who took silver in the 100m and gold in the 200m before helping her team to relay gold. Her efforts earned her the Best Junior Girls Sprinter Trophy, a fitting reward for a standout meeting.

She was far from alone on the podium. Michelle Ojiadazie won gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m, and was part of the winning relay team. Madison Peebles claimed gold in the 100m along with silver in both the 200m and 400m, also finishing on the winning relay team. Thabi Lafuleni took silver in the 100m and gold in the 200m, while Isa Sigola won the 100m and took silver in the 200m, both also collecting relay gold. Cassidy Nel had a strong all-round showing, with bronze in the 800m, gold in the 200m and silver in the 400m, plus a relay gold medal. Kristen Heine took bronze in the 400m, and Obe Peter earned silver in the 100m, with both adding relay gold to their tally. Jaime Visser picked up silver in both the 100m and 200m and was part of the silver-medal relay team. Rounding out the girls’ relay gold medallists were Micah Mutwale, Gracious Kubeka, Zuhayra Butler and Naledi Liebenberg, while Angel Emekpo, Inam Faku and Roxy Nagel completed the silver-winning relay squad.

The boys matched their teammates’ form on the track. Emeka Okeke had a superb meeting, taking bronze in the 100m, silver in the 200m and gold in the 400m, before adding relay gold to complete a strong set of results. Aaryan Naidoo claimed silver in both the 100m and 200m and was part of the gold-winning relay team. Zolile Talatala, Kaden Velloen and Mohammed Butler each took bronze in the 400m and also helped their relay teams to gold.

Completing the boys’ relay gold medals were Thendo Madzivha, Khethelo Xulu, Aqhama Williams, Faith Thutelo, Khonza Mthembu, Njabulo Nkabinde, Isaiah Abrahams, Nikaylin Govender, Nkanyezi Ndaba, Nyiko Hlongwane and Mpasho Masooa.

Rand Park High School principal Alan Wilke praised the athletes and those who supported them throughout the season. “Congratulations to every athlete who represented Rand Park High School at the Prestige Athletics Meeting, and thank you to our coaches and staff for their dedication and contribution to a successful athletics season,” said Wilke.

The results cap off a memorable season for the school’s athletics programme, with medals spread widely across grades and events, reflecting strength in depth for Rand Park both now and in seasons to come.
