Joburg Water has no plans for the Bordeaux drain that has been leaking for nearly two months.
What locals suspected was a sewage leak on Bordeaux Drive into Ryder Road was confirmed by Joburg Water spokeswoman Nolwazi Dhlamini as no sewer leakage or blockage.

This comes after multiple residents reported what seemed to be and smelled like a sewage leak to Joburg Water.
Dhlamini said that this matter has been investigated and no blockages were found onsite. “The Johannesburg Water team and the foreman then checked the stormwater system to see if there was any sewage inside the stormwater. However, the team only found stagnant water inside the stormwater drain that had a smell.”

She added that JRA has been informed about the stormwater drain, which falls under their responsibilities.
“There is no sewer blockage onsite, there is no leak, however, a site meeting can be conducted with the customer to understand the complaint and JRA can be also part of the meeting.”
WATCH:
The stinky water flows from Bordeaux Drive to Ryder Road through the neighbourhood into Main Street. It also produces a filthy pond near residents’ homes and runs past the Bordeaux Primary School.
Resident Anna Strapp said that this has been going on for about two months now, there is an awful smell, and it is embarrassing when you have visitors.

“This could lead to the spread of Cholera in our area. The first response received was that they do not have vehicles to send out and then they said it was not sewage. If it’s not sewage why is there a smell and why is it coming from a manhole.”
