Bordeaux Garden Village hosts Mardi Gras for residents

Garden Village is one of 14 Methodist homes and they have been providing compassionate care and comfortable accommodation to the elderly for over 50 years.

The senior residents of Garden Village in Bordeaux, Randburg, were tapping their feet and swinging their arms to the energetic beat during the Mardi Gras extravaganza.

A colourful parade of entertainers from Tandem Flame put on a spectacular performance. Fire dancing, masterful juggling and a man on stilts creating charming balloon art all took place against a backdrop of vibrant music.

“Ursula Coster, manager of Garden Village, said they hosted this pageant, especially for their valued residents. “The show was presented in such a way that residents from our care centre together with their carers, were able to join our independent living residents for a morning of fun and laughter in the bright outdoors.”

The residents took turns to give the piñata a good whack and it was not long before it burst open to reveal its sweet contents. Arts and crafts were provided and they created their own colourful masks while they sipped on slush puppies and enjoyed freshly made popcorn.

“It was so heart-warming for the Garden Village management and staff to see the large smiles on our residents’ faces and to listen to their animated chatter; it was very clear that everyone had a wonderful time and would be speaking fondly of this show for some time to come,” said Coster.
