Local police stations work together on a successful operation

Station commander Brigadier Michelle Jones explained that roadblocks help to ensure that vehicles on the road are roadworthy and that motorists are not driving under the influence of alcohol.

A recent joint operation between the Randburg and Douglasdale police stations led to several arrests for crimes including; illegal immigrants and dealing in liquor without a valid license.

The day started with an early briefing facilitated by the district leadership where the briefing involved police stations sharing a crime overview and the challenges they face in their areas.

All crime categories were presented and discussed. The senior police district management interrogated the statistics and areas that needed improvement. JMPD, ward councillors, community stakeholders, and CPF members were also present at the briefing. After the briefing, the SAPS and other parties went to observe an operation/roadblock in the Fourways and Randburg areas.

A large contingent of SAPS members, the SAPS equestrian division, ward councillors, security companies, and Tracker took part in a very successful roadblock.

Mr. Mogale a member of the Randburg CPF said, “I was pleased to see the level of preparation that goes into these kinds of operations and the good cooperation between the two police stations and relevant role-players.”

During the operation, multiple arrests were made and several traffic fines were issued by JMPD.

Explaining how important it is for the community and police stations to have a relationship and to be able to work together, Randburg Police Station commander Brigadier Michelle Jones said that a police-community partnership closes the gap between the police and community members by establishing a working relationship and deep engagement between the two.

“Communities share responsibilities with the police such as street patrol and guarding private and public properties. Reaching out to the community, taking the time to address conflict, and seeking to understand all flow naturally when officers operate with a mindset focused on procedural fairness. Not only do these strategies strengthen community relationships, but they make the job of policing safer and easier in the long run.”
