Armed suspect caught fleeing in Blairgowrie

Beagle Watch response officers cornered a knife-wielding suspect on Blairgowrie Drive on Wednesday, holding him until police arrived to make the arrest.

 Beagle Watch response officers apprehended a suspect who threatened a victim with a knife on Blairgowrie Drive on August 12, holding him until police arrived to make the arrest.

According to Beagle Watch area manager David Caseiro, the incident began when a Beagle Watch client alerted the company’s call centre after witnessing an altercation between two men, one of whom appeared to be armed with a knife.

At almost the same moment, a resident flagged down a patrolling response officer to report the same disturbance.

Officers arrived on scene within a minute., finding the victim fleeing from the suspect, who was carrying a large knife.

The suspect then ran into a nearby property that was not a Beagle Watch client address, but officers followed and tracked him down there.

The victim told officers that the suspect had followed him and accused him of pursuing his girlfriend before threatening him with the knife, possibly in an attempt to steal his cellphone.

By the time officers caught up with the suspect, he no longer had the weapon on him. A search of the surrounding area turned up the knife, which had been hidden in nearby bushes.

Beagle Watch officers held the suspect until members of the South African Police Service arrived. Police then took him into custody and transported him to Linden SAPS, where he was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
