Kingsway Christian School announces its leaders for 2024

Dlamini thanks the community around the school who has taken so much interest in what is happening and helping wherever possible.

Grade 7 learners Lwandle Mthembu (head girl) and Kamohelo Moshoaliba (head boy) have been named the new head leaders of Kingsway Christian School for 2024.

Based in Randpark Ridge, Kingsway is a subsidised independent school that caters for children mainly from Zandspruit and neighbouring communities of Cosmo City.

Principal Kgethi Dlamini explained that their 14 new leaders were chosen by the other learners.

Itumeleng Khoza, Lwandle Mthembu, Ofentse Letsoalo, Kamohelo Moshoaliba and Lindokuhle Nkosi.

“The whole class chooses 14 learners that they have identified as potential good leaders. These names are then taken by the teachers and three boys and three girls are shortlisted for the position of head girl and head boy. They are informed and their names are put on a ballot paper for elections. On a set date they introduce themselves and present their manifestos in assembly. This is an exciting day for the whole school.”

She added that the classes are invited to vote for their head girl and head boy by show of a cross. The girl and boy with the highest votes become head leaders.

“It is amazing how even our foundation phase learners are vested in the process. They know the Grade 7s so well, even better than the teachers at times.”

The leaders will take on roles to ensure that the school is safe, the environment is pleasant and that learners have fun and enjoy the school. They are encouraged to listen, to love to be kind and supportive. They are also expected to be visible on the playground.

They were encouraged to communicate to other learners how to solve problems. Also to initiate their own projects or support initiatives like reading and assisting with the foundation phase.

“We encourage the whole school, especially the Grade 7 class as leaders to live by the fruits of the spirit as a Christian School. We are amazed at what they do and how they have just taken to their roles. Our Kingsway parents are just divine and so supportive of everything that we do as a school. We pay tribute to them. Education is a three-legged pot made up of learners, teachers and parents and it is amazing when they all function together. We are blessed,” added Dlamini.
