Orion College puts the fun in fundraising

Primary school principal Barbra Robinson said days like these allow the learners to express their individuality and develop confidence.

Orion College in Randpark Ridge lit up with excitement and creativity as learners and staff came together for a unique event – a fun hair and hat day.

Primary school principal Barbra Robinson expressed her delight, saying, “The event was to include fun and excitement in our school’s annual calendar, while simultaneously fundraising for the Grade 7 farewell.”

She pointed out how strong the creative energy was at the event, with both learners and staff showcasing their imagination through different hairstyles and hats. “We usually do an Easter bonnet competition this time of year – but decided to switch it up.”
The result of switching it up was a show of creative designs, from whimsical wigs to unique creations like a spider crafted from hair.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Robinson said, “The event was a success. It created imagination and creativity among everyone who participated.”

She explained that the day gave learners and staff the opportunity to let loose and express themselves freely. “It wasn’t so much about a conveyed message or theme, but the event allowed the learners and staff the chance to let their hair down – excuse the pun.”

Outside of having fun, the event had another purpose. “Learners had to pay a small amount to participate in the event, and these funds raised will go towards the Grade 7 farewell.”

Robinson explained that having events like this is not only fun but also important for the learner’s development. “At Orion, we believe in growing the whole child, through more than just academic support. Fun days like these allow the learners the opportunity to express their individuality, develop confidence, and feel like they are part of something.”
