Ferndale Bowls Club bowler shines at the BSA championships
King of green Warren Steyn puts on the great performance at the BSA championships.
Ferndale Bowls Club chairman and renowned bowler Warren Wazza Steyn walked away with silver in pairs at the recent 2024 Bowls South Africa Men’s National Championships (BSA).
He paired with Otto Holicki and fell shot 16–15 on the 2024 champions Wilson Malobolo and Prince Neluonde who took home the gold.
Steyn was the last player in the country to be in three disciplines. He reached the quarters in the singles and last 16 in the fours.
He explained that it was a great achievement, however, he is slightly disappointed that in three disciplines he did not manage to win gold in one of them.
“It is overall the best achievement. I expected two of them to have a chance, especially the ones I got silver in because I was playing against my friends. But overall, I am proud of my achievements.”
The nationals are played in a space of nine days and Steyn played 27 games in total.
He equals last year’s record in the Gauteng record and is currently ranked number one in Professionals Bowls Association South Africa.
“I am happy the last two seasons have been too good to me. We have had a lot of interest and new memberships signing up in our club. We are a small club, but we have achieved a lot with both males and females in this club.”
Steyn also shared his contacts, information tricks and secrets with other bowlers to improve their games.
“After nationals, I was back on the green putting in hours helping others and I have bookings to do coaching and getting the youngers involved in the game.”
