Ferndale Bowls Club officially opens their green
Ferndale Bowls Club chairman Warren Steyn said that Chester Hollis has been instrumental in greenkeeping for decade around the country and they are blessed to have him share his knowledge and skills
Members of the Ferndale Bowls Club gathered for the official opening of the Chester Hollis green.
Hollis has been part of the club for 45 years and has been involved in maintaining the greens to high standards while also passing down the knowledge to member Gustaph Mawele and club chairman Warren Steyn.

He delivered the first bowl and declared the green open.
“We made the facilities better and turned it into a very nice clubhouse,” he said. “It is now a first-class, A-grade facility for bowls and probably one of the best here in Joburg.” All of the club’s greens are A-graded.
Hollis added it was an honour for him to officially open the green and it was good to see all the work he had put in over the years was being recognised.

“This club is fantastic we have great bowlers and amazing people. Bowls is very strong at this club; we have bowlers that represent the country and province but they still come and play with the other members and help wherever they can. They are just all nice people.”
Steyn applauded Hollis for his brilliant work over the years in greenkeeping.
“He has been doing this forever and he took me under his wing and taught me everything he knows… We want beautiful, clean and flat surfaces to play on and he taught me how best to do that.”
