The initiative is attributed to the positive collaborative efforts with the Linden Community Policing Forum (CPF), Department of Health, Department of Social Development, local security companies, and other law enforcement agencies.

Linden SAPS held a 16 days of activism event in Windsor.

Linden Police Station commander Colonel Shaid Abdool explained that their focus is to get children to speak out against violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking.

“The most vulnerable need to know that the SAPS, with stakeholders from the community and the CPF, have a zero-tolerance stance in this regard. The stance also includes support to victims of these horrendous, hateful crimes. Our 24/7 operations are not limited to these 16 Days.”

The 16 days of activism is an ideal platform to garner more community support to see something, say something.

He added that they encourage all communities to speak out, having trained personnel at the station to help them. “We have community volunteers who staff our GBV desks and the Victim Support Unit, who will deal with all GBV related matters with the sensitivity and privacy that they deserve. Advice and referrals to additional services are also provided as we work with a directory of expert services as our partners.”

The safer festive season initiative sees the implementation of proactive policing strategies that include high-density operations targeted at crime hotspots, as well as routine crime prevention patrols, together with mall and community activations, to keep the public and private spaces safe for the holidays.

They are focusing on the following:

• Prevention of crimes against vulnerable groups and GBVF (Gender based violence and femicide).
• Prevention of aggravated robberies and trio crimes.
• Proactive policing to counter illicit drugs and illicit and counterfeit goods.
• Enforcement of legislation in respect of firearms, liquor, second hand goods, and safety in public spaces and events.
• Enforcement of by-laws targeting hijacked buildings.
• Road safety will be a high priority, including combating of driving whilst under the influence of liquor, speeding, and un-roadworthy vehicles.
• Extortion is a serious crime and is punishable by law. Penalties may include fines, imprisonment, and restitution.

The station commander and the CPF chairperson, Annelize Tischauer, commended all stakeholders, volunteers, and personnel who joined hands in ensuring strategies are put into operation at station level.
