Hosted by Randburg Harriers, the race saw runners from all around the city. They had fun dressing up in Valentine’s famous red and white colours, despite the bad weather. Some even dressed in fairy wings, bunny ears, and tutus, and hearts were in abundance.

Kipsang was the first man on the finishing line, clocking an amazing 00:31:53, followed closely by Mokaedi Pheko at 00:32:00. Phalula-Mzazi topped the ladies race, clocking in at 0:34:41, with Emma Pallant taking the second spot at 00:38:33. Kaitlyn Du Plessis, from Boxer Athletics Club, clinched the junior women’s race, clocking in at 00:45:05, while Jerry Minga was first in the junior men’s race, with an impressive time of 00:35:30.

Phalula-Mzazi explained that the race was tough, but she had prepared well. “I have been training the whole December. I told myself I wouldn’t go on holidays, I would prepare, as I did not perform well last year. I’m happy with my performance in this tough race. I have been running since I was in the sub youth category, and I’m still running well at my age. I’m happy with the results.”

Kipsang said that the race was hard, but he kept going. “It was not easy, but I really enjoyed the challenge. I am happy with the results and the time I made. I have been working hard, preparing for over three months, and I’m proud that the work paid off.”
