‘Insurance fraud on the rise,’ says Douglasdale CPF

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) is sounding a serious alarm regarding a troubling rise in cases of insurance fraud within the community.

Freda Boiles, the CPF public relations officer, explained that in recent weeks authorities have observed a disturbing trend, with individuals fabricating claims about stolen laptops, cellphones, and other valuables from their vehicles, to fraudulently receive insurance payouts.

Insurance fraud is categorised as a criminal offense under South African law, and those caught engaging in such deceptive practices face significant legal repercussions, including prosecution. The CPF has emphasised that these false claims not only waste crucial police resources but also jeopardize the integrity of legitimate crime investigations.

In light of these developments, the CPF strongly advises residents to resist the temptation to partake in any fraudulent activities. “We urge the community to act responsibly and to report crime honestly. Maintaining the trust and efficiency of our policing resources is vital for the welfare of all residents,” said Boiles

Residents who suspect fraudulent activity, or possess information related to such cases, are encouraged to come forward and contact the Douglasdale Police Station, or their local CPF representatives.

The Douglasdale CPF calls upon all community members to unite in the fight against insurance fraud, reinforcing a safe and equitable environment for everyone.
