Randburg CPF urges residents to donate to assist Randburg Police Station

SAPS budget cuts have affected Randburg Police Station, prompting the Randburg CPF to call on the community for assistance.

Randburg Community Policing Forum (CPF) calls for urgent support amid SAPS budget cuts. As the bridge between the police and the public, the CPF assists in crime prevention, neighbourhood patrols, and community engagement.

Mzi Khumalo, of the Randburg CPF, explained that the severe budget cuts have placed enormous strain on the Randburg Police Station, limiting its ability to serve and protect effectively.

To address this, the CPF is rallying community support to bolster the station by donating a bit of time, or offering skills in any capacity. They are also seeking donations, any financial contributions or materials, which will go a long way in keeping the station functional.

Khumalo explained that the donations will have a big impact, enabling some of the police vehicles to be deployed, and fixing the plumbing issues. This will help the police, as well as residents, as the station will look presentable and comfortable for the public.

“We ask residents to donate, this will enable the station to maintain a satisfactory service level and improve the morale of the police, as well as the satisfaction of the public when they come for help. It is very important for the station to deliver a service equal to the demands of the Randburg jurisdiction.”

He added that this service level cannot be determined by resources, but must be in response to the needs of the community. “Where there is a shortage of resources, we cannot decrease the service level. We must rather raise the resources, however we can. There are many fundraising activities to follow, as well as opportunities for the community to engage with the police to build partnerships against crime.”

The police station needs the following:

• Repairs: The station requires essential maintenance, including plumbing and electrical work.
• Police vehicles: Many vehicles are out of service and in dire need of repair. A shortage of operational vehicles directly affects response times and community safety.
• Memory sticks: Officers urgently need storage devices to manage crucial case files and reports.

The CPF is calling on businesses and residents to step up, whether through financial aid, materials, or volunteer efforts. “Our police officers work tirelessly to keep us safe, now, they need our help. Every contribution makes a difference.”
