Kelly Park residents not happy with Johannesburg Roads Agency’s work on Patrys Road
Kelly Park residents in Randpark Ridge want JRA to complete the work on Patrys Road, after they patched some of the bigger potholes, but left the small ones, which they know will grow over time.
Residents in Kelly Park, Randpark Ridge are not happy with Johannesburg Road Agency’s (JRA) work on the potholes on Patrys Road.
Concerned resident Melanie Leppan explained that the quality of the repairs are not great, as they repaired the bigger potholes poorly, and left the smaller ones open. “Roads are uneven and you still need to drive around the potholes. Only the bigger ones were done. The road is uneven and patchy with smaller holes around the patches.”

She added that they want JRA to repair the road properly, sooner rather than later, in a correct manner. “Within a few weeks the small holes they left will become the new large holes. The main problem is that they never come back to finish the repairs. In a couple of months we will be back where we were, and they won’t come back to do repairs.”

The residents want JRA to resurface the road, not patch the potholes, as they believe that it is not a permanent or long-lasting solution.
Ward 104 councillor Devon Steenkamp explained that, at first, it was a welcoming sight to see JRA finally attending to potholes in the area, but that didn’t last long. “Only a few potholes were attended to in the Kelly Park area, particularly on Patrys Road and surrounding streets. What’s concerning is the inconsistency. Several large, hazardous potholes were left untouched, while smaller ones were patched. It’s a half-done job at best.”
He said that the entity committed to completing the Ward 134 priority pothole list by July 1. “After that date, I will personally assess the area and write to the MMC for Transport to ask how he plans to hold his department accountable for this poor performance, as I expect many pothole repairs to be not completed.”

The list of priority potholes that have been identified by JRA in Ward 104 to complete by July 1 are:
Boskruin
• Ysterhout Drive/Randpark Drive Intersection
Randpark Ridge
• Katdoring Street/Asgaai Avenue
• Asgaai Avenue/Geelhout Street
• A Geelhout Street
• Essenhout Drive
• Njala Street/Kerbsoom Road

• Karee Street
• Duiker Avenue

• Taurus Road
• Drysdale Road
• Spica Crescent

It remains unclear if the entity will reach the completion target, or if the potholes in Kelly Park will be revisited. JRA was sent questions on June 19, but have not replied by the time of print.
