Honeydew CPF rallies community spirit ahead of festive Toy Run
The Honeydew CPF’s annual Toy Run is more than just a donation drive; it’s a reminder of how local unity can make a real difference this festive season.
As the festive season approaches, the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) is calling on residents to join hands once again for its much-loved Annual Toy Run, a celebration of community spirit and generosity that brings joy to children and vulnerable members of society.
The Toy Run was originally started many years ago by SAPS reservists, and in recent years, the Honeydew CPF has become increasingly involved in organising and supporting the event. Over time, it has grown into a cherished local tradition that reflects the area’s strong sense of community and compassion.
“This event is about more than giving,” said Michael Steyn, the CPF’s public relations officer. “It’s about showing that our community cares. Every small contribution goes a long way in spreading happiness during the holidays.”

While this year’s list of beneficiaries is still being finalised, Steyn said the CPF aims to visit several old-age homes, homes for people with disabilities, children’s wards at hospitals, and children’s homes in the area, just as they have in previous years.
“Bakers biscuits are typically distributed among the old-age homes and homes for the disabled. It may seem like a small gesture, but sharing a simple treat to enjoy at tea time is what it’s all about. Many residents don’t have the opportunity to see their families during the festive season, and if we can bring them a little joy and comfort, we are proud to do so.”
In previous years, the Toy Run has received tremendous support from the community, allowing the CPF to expand its reach and share gifts with even more beneficiaries than before.

Residents can support this year’s initiative by purchasing a 1kg pack of Bakers Choice Assorted Biscuits or making a monetary donation, which will be used to buy additional biscuits for distribution.

Steyn added that another great way to make a difference is by joining the Honeydew CPF Patrollers Programme. “Whether you’re male or female, as long as you’re over 21, your participation can make a real difference. There’s always a need for extra eyes and ears to help keep our community safe during patrols.
“Our community has always stepped up when it matters most. Together, we can bring smiles, laughter, and a sense of hope to children and seniors who need it most this festive season.”
