Cosmo City Warriors enter new year confidently

After an impressive year of growth and teamwork, Cosmo City Warriors FC step into 2026 proud of their junior squads and committed to guiding township youth.

Cosmo City Warriors FC will enter the new year with renewed confidence after a strong 2025 season across all its junior divisions. According to vice-chairman and coach Vusimuzi Mpofu, the club’s progress reflects steady growth, discipline, and a shared commitment to giving young boys in the community real opportunities.

Founded in 2017, the club was created to keep children off the streets while guiding them towards becoming skilled footballers and responsible young men. This year, all teams from U11 to U17 reached the Top 8 stages in the Cosmo City Local League and Rand Central. Mpofu said the boys’ style of play has continued to improve, showing clear progress every matchday.

The U11 side enjoyed a standout run, finishing fourth in the league and reaching the finals, where they will face the strong Happy Boys team. The U13 and U15 squads reached the semi-finals, while the U17s were knocked out in the first round and placed eighth overall.

While the club values teamwork above all, Mpofu highlighted two young players who have shown exceptional promise: Mthokozisi Ncube (U11) has been with the Warriors since the age of seven. He is versatile and reliable and excels at right wing-back and centre-back. And Adolf Mmola (U11) is a talented winger and striker known for his sharp awareness and hunger for goals.

Despite the progress, the club continues to face financial challenges. Basic needs such as training equipment, pitch maintenance and coaching costs remain difficult to meet for a township-based team.

As the Warriors move into 2026, the club is sending warm New Year wishes to parents, players and supporters. Mpofu encouraged families to stay safe during celebrations and reminded the boys to keep fit during the holidays, as January trials across Gauteng are approaching.

“Please avoid drinking and driving,” he said. “We want everyone to enter the new year safely so we can continue building on the hard work we achieved this season.”
