Sandton Chefs Circle and general managers circle host annual year-end lunch at HTA School of Culinary Art

The Sandton Chefs Circle, together with the Johannesburg general managers (GMs) for philanthropic causes, held their annual year-end luncheon at the HTA School of Culinary Art in Randburg.

The event, now a long-standing tradition within Johannesburg’s hospitality community, brought together leading chefs, general managers, and industry partners for an afternoon of connection, collaboration, and celebration. This year’s lunch was prepared by guest chef Trevor Chikaura of Briskets and Biscuits, adding his signature creativity and culinary flair to the occasion.

A defining highlight of the annual gathering was the participation of St Laurence Children’s Haven, which joined as the honoured guests. Throughout the year, members of the Chefs Circle collect books, toys, and clothing, which are handed over to the children at the luncheon as part of a cherished tradition.

Honorary past president of the South African Chefs Association, Duane Riley, explained that the children enjoyed a dedicated activity area complete with treats, entertainment, and a warm welcome from the hospitality community. This gesture continues to reinforce the event’s spirit of generosity and shared humanity.

“The year-end lunch reflects the ongoing partnership between the Sandton Chefs Circle, GMs Circle, and HTA School of Culinary Art,” he said. “This is a relationship grounded in mentorship, skills development, and industry upliftment. HTA was proud to host once again the event at its campus in Ferndale, Randburg, creating an inspiring setting where professional chefs and future talent intersect.”

Stephen Billingham, the managing director of HTA School of Culinary Art, said the annual lunch is more than an end-of-year gathering; it is a reminder of why their industry thrives.

“Collaboration, community, compassion, and shared passion continue to shape the hospitality landscape, and we are honoured to be part of this legacy.”

The event concluded with heartfelt thanks to all participating chefs, general managers, sponsors, and partners whose contributions made the day possible.
