HTA School of Culinary Arts hosts a 10th Legacy Competition

Chefs showcased their skills at the Legacy Cooking Competition, strutting their stuff in the second-year student, industry chef, and first-year student categories.

Celebrating its tenth year, the HTA School of Culinary Arts Legacy Competition once again delivered an inspiring showcase of talent, passion, and culinary excellence.

This prestigious competition continues to provide a platform for HTA students to test their abilities against real-world challenges, refining the creativity and discipline required to excel in the hospitality industry.

Duan Rilley, of HTA, explained that the competition is divided into three categories: Legacy (second-year students), Professional (industry chefs), and the Beginning (first-year students). “Together, they represent the complete journey of a chef – from early potential through to professional mastery.”

Ewald Janse van Rensburg was crowned the Legacy 2025 Overall Champion, with Elizabeth Ncube taking home the Professional title. Naledi Nthite was the Beginning winner, proving that the next generation of culinary leaders is ready to shine.

The awards ceremony was attended by distinguished members of the hospitality industry, family, sponsors, and hospitality industry leaders. Each finalist received a Legacy Competition hamper, filled with prizes from valued sponsors, whose continued generosity makes this event possible.

Rilley added that, as in previous years, the judging panel included World Chef accredited judges, Academy of Chefs members, and hospitality industry experts, ensuring the highest level of credibility and fairness. “The 2025 edition of Legacy not only celebrated culinary excellence; it marked a milestone: The 10th anniversary of the competition. The school is proud to continue creating opportunities for young chefs to shine, and remains committed to fostering the future of South African gastronomy.”
