St Stithians Girls’ College matriculant honours her late sister through service leadership

Jenna Kirk, a St Stithians Girls’ College matriculant, excelled academically and showed leadership by founding a fund and awareness campaign honouring her late sister.

St Stithians Girls’ College matriculant Jenna Kirk has closed her school career with outstanding academic results and a remarkable commitment to community service. Achieving five distinctions in accounting, equine studies, life orientation, mathematics, and physical sciences, Jenna’s academic success is impressive, but it is her compassion and leadership that truly set her apart.
Jenna’s journey has been shaped by personal tragedy. In 2022, her sister Samantha passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest caused by a genetic condition called Long QT, shortly after completing her own matric. The loss left a profound impact on Jenna, who chose to turn grief into action rather than despair.

In honour of Samantha, Jenna and her family established the Samantha Making a Difference Fund, an initiative that provides students at the St Stithians Thandulwazi Maths and Science Academy with vital first aid and CPR training. The impact of the programme has already been life-changing, with one student credited with saving a life after completing the training.

Jenna has also introduced wear blue day, an annual tradition at the girls’ college aimed at raising awareness about resuscitation and the importance of life-saving skills. Hundreds of students have been trained, extending Jenna’s sister’s legacy far beyond the classroom.

For her leadership and initiative, Jenna was awarded an honorary leadership role at the conclusion of her matric year. Her actions reflect the values of sisterhood, empathy, and service that St Stithians nurtures in its students.

“Jenna’s commitment demonstrates that true fulfilment comes from giving back and lifting others,” said a school spokesperson. “Through her love for her sister, she has strengthened bonds of community while empowering others to make a real difference.”

Jenna Kirk’s story is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the power of turning personal loss into a force for good, a legacy that will continue to inspire her school and wider community.
