A 47-year-old woman, Busisiwe Dladla, has been convicted by the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg for the murder of Mzwandile Konki in Randburg.
Dladla faced multiple charges, including murder, kidnapping, torture, extortion, and money laundering.
Investigations revealed she lent Konki R15 000. When he failed to repay, she arranged his kidnapping on September 5, 2022.
He was briefly released but kidnapped again on September 9, taken to Dladla’s home, detained, and tortured. Konki died from injuries sustained during this second abduction on September 10, 2022.

Evidence also showed that money extorted from the family was deposited into the account of Dladla’s daughter, Sinethemba (25), and later transferred to her sister, Cebisile (41), to conceal the funds. Both were convicted of money laundering.
During the trial, Dladla denied involvement, but WhatsApp messages linked her to the assailants. Sentencing has been postponed to April 15. Dladla remains in custody, while her daughter and sister are out on bail.
According to the NPA statement, spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said: “This conviction sends a clear message that violent crime, exploitation, and illegal money-lending practices will not be tolerated.”
