“Today we have a march to present a memorandum. Mondli Makhaya has reported falsely for years. This response is nothing new or unusual. They must give a reason why Makhaya has been allowed to abuse his position, without any check by those who should hold him accountable,” said IFP president Velenkosini Fiki Hlabisa.

“He has committed blatant defamation against committee members of the  IFP for years. There has been no action against him, we want to know why.”

WATCH:

Here are some of the demands made in the memorandum:

  • Immediately desist from publishing his work.
  • Hold Makhanya accountable for the lack of objectivity and abuse of power, and inform us why [City Press] continues to employ a political operator.
  • Ensure City Press publishes a formal and prominent apology for allowing its platform to be abused, and breaching the Press Code.

“We are looking forward to receiving a positive response within 14 days. Failure to respond will result in us continuing to protest in a different manner that will be difficult to manage,” concluded Hlabisa.

The memorandum has been handed over to, and signed, by representatives of City Press.
