Robin Hills Primary School shuts down due to the current water crisis

The school had to close earlier than usual as the water shutdown affected hygiene.

Robin Hills Primary School principal Anttonette Brophy issued a notice to parents that the school closed early today, [March 7] due to the current water crisis.

One of the leaderboards at the Eikenhof substation experienced a flash-over (an electric discharge over or around the surface of an insulator) on Monday, March 4, as a result, many areas in Randburg and surrounds did not have water.

While power is restored, some areas remain without water three days later.

Brophy said they sent the learners home at 11:00 for two reasons – hygiene and health and learning disruptions.

“Inadequate water affects our ability to maintain proper hygiene. Handwashing, ablution facilities, and overall sanitation are compromised.

“Without a consistent water supply, teaching and learning suffer. Learners struggle to focus when a basic necessity like water is unavailable.”
