In the face of adversity, communities often come together, showcasing the true spirit of unity and support.
This is the case in Bramhof, Randburg where the water shortage crisis has prompted urgent action and solidarity among residents.
For the past three days, the community has grappled with the challenges of water scarcity, posing difficulties, particularly for the elderly. Recognising the pressing need for assistance, a call for help reverberated through the neighbourhood, echoing the shared determination to alleviate the plight of those most affected.
Nikki Belt of Community Heroes group explained that in a heartfelt plea, community members extended a request for urgent assistance, appealing to the compassion and generosity of fellow residents.

“The message was clear: spare empty containers were desperately needed to transport and distribute water to those in need. The response has been nothing short of inspiring.”
Residents have wasted no time in mobilising, heeding the call for aid with unwavering commitment and dedication.
“From every corner of the community, individuals stepped forward, offering their support in whatever way they could. It was a testament to the resilience and compassion embedded within the community’s fabric.”
With their assistance, volunteers rallied together, organising deliveries to Golden Harvest 1 and 2, ensuring that vital supplies reached those facing hardship.
But the efforts didn’t stop there. With determination and solidarity guiding their actions, the community set their sights on extending support to neighbouring areas. Making their way to Sonneglans Park, volunteers embarked on a journey of compassion, delivering water and hope to those affected by the crisis.
Throughout the day, the community has been buzzing with activity as residents work tirelessly to meet the needs of their fellow neighbours. Containers are being filled, deliveries are being made, and hope is being restored with each act of kindness.
“To every individual who lent a helping hand, whether through donations, deliveries, or acts of kindness, the community expresses heartfelt thanks. It was a reminder that in moments of hardship, it is the strength of community and the bonds of solidarity that sustain us,” added Belt.
Ward 101 councillor Ralf Bittkau explained that Bromhof is one of the worst affected areas as they have had no water since Sunday, March 3.
“I have, in total, nine retirement villages and I am getting empty and false promises regarding the water tanks. They said they would come in the morning but nothing.”
Johannesburg Water’s latest update stated that the systems continue recovering, although complete recovery is projected to take anything from a few days to a week.
